Baroy Small Coconut Farmers Agriculture Cooperative (BSCFAC) Turns Discarded Coconut Shells into ₱1.7 Million in Sales.

What was once considered waste is now creating value and opportunity for coconut farmers in Kadingilan, Bukidnon.

The Baroy Small Coconut Farmers Agriculture Cooperative (BSCAFC) has transformed discarded coconut shells into a valuable commodity through coconut shell charcoal production. With assistance from the DTI-Bukidnon RAPID Growth Project, the cooperative consolidated coconut shell charcoal from Kadingilan and nearby municipalities and established a market linkage with Donau Carbon Philippines Inc., providing farmers with a reliable market for what was once considered a low-value by-product.

From April to August 2026 alone, the cooperative consolidated approximately 40 metric tons of coconut shell charcoal, generating an impressive ₱1.7 million in sales. The charcoal also underwent quality assessment and was classified as Class A, demonstrating that the consolidated product met the required quality standards for its intended market.

The achievement demonstrates how agricultural waste can become an important source of additional income when supported by farmer organization, value addition, quality improvement, and reliable market linkages.

What once lay discarded after coconut processing is now being transformed into charcoal, income, and opportunity.
